Formed in 2011 by senior telecommunications and aviation executives. SmartSky Networks is seeking to transform aviation through disruptive communications technologies and related tools. The innovative air-to-ground network planned to be fully operational in 2021 will leverage 5G technologies and more than 170 patents to provide the best connectivity experience in the sky. Thanks to a large portfolio of technology patents, SmartSky will be able to offer a fast and low latency ATG network using a 60MHZ bandwidth in the unlicensed 2.4 GHz spectrum band without causing harmful interference to or receiving interference from the operation of the same band on the ground.
Smartsky Networks teamed up with Satcom Direct as exclusive distribution partner for business aviation and a large number of authorised system installation centers to cover a large variety of aircraft models.
COVERAGE
SmartSky Networks has started deploying its ground network that should cover all US continental territory. The advanced patented beamforming technology will allow for a consistent connection between each aircraft and the serving tower through a single dedicated beam per aircraft.
HARDWARE
SmartSky typical installation will include the following components:
- 1 x Aircraft Base Radio (ABR) LRU
- 1 x High-Performance Blade Rx Antenna (HPB)
- 1 x Full-Duplex Quad (FDQ) Rx/Tx Antenna
The compact shipset weight is around 32 lbs and can should interface through a 1Gbps ethernet to cabin routers and wireless access points.
